The home farm of Tregirls is a traditional mixed farm,
farmed by the Watson Smyth family for over 50 years and is part
of the Prideaux Brune estate. It is set in an area of outstanding
natural beauty overlooking Harbour Cove and the Coastal Footpath.
Much of the land is in Countryside Stewardship - an
environmental scheme where no sprays or fertilisers are used. Also,
field margins are left uncultivated. This creates a better habitat
for rare species of plant and this encourages endangered wildlife
such as corn bunting, barn owl, grey partridge and hare.
Wheat and barley are grown on the farm with North
Devon beef cattle and Suffolk cross sheep grazing the grassland.
Outdoor pigs are kept - these are Tamworths and Large Blacks.
